The Beauty of Fall Motion

It’s always been easy to remember what to do about daylight savings time twice a year. The

child’s rhyme of “spring forward, fall back” works for me every time. There are various stories about how it all came about, the war, farm harvesting, etc. It all seems silly now and no one can tell when the whole thing will become a catch phrase.

Cosi vala vita means “so it goes” Some of us shrug and say Tresanti which is hit and a miss for expressions. It is a semi-well known brand of furniture. ‘So it goes’ comes from Kurt Vonnegut’s masterpiece or from Stoic philosophy. Take your pick, the thoughts seem to lead down the old rabbit hole. Red pill or Blue pill, so it goes.

There is a 1st Nation explanation of Daylight Savings time. “Only a white man would cut off a foot of a blanket and sew it on the top and say it was a longer blanket”

This thought train began when researching Halloween. All Hallows Eve of ancestor worship tying into some interesting Celtic rituals. Back to when some of us remnants of civilization did the door to door thing it was just candy. The tricks were lit paper bags and doorbells and soaped windows. Never did those things, it seemed counter intuitive to city neighborliness. The kids who did those things always got caught, maybe that was the idea.

These musings began while I was communing with God in our garden. Sprouts still doing well and the marigold bug deflector flowers next to them have passed their expiration date. Sitting on the bench in the exact middle of the garden, I began to pray. My eyes closed. I could just hear the wind and a few geese practicing their peloton flying.

The wind picked up and I looked East to see the dance and flutter of the last leaves of our big maple. The branches close to the ground giving the wind one more chance to help the dance. A fast dance it was. I sensed Him nearby and bowed lower and asked Him to heal my cuts and bruises from a recent fall. They are visible now with red infected skin.

Whereas the past ones are also infectious but there are no ice packs or antibiotics used on them. The infection on those is in our heart and then accepting a false image of ourselves. I have to repeat and remember that He holds my hand and tells me how to walk with Him.

A child of God indeed. Hush little baby don’t you cry, Papa’s gonna sing you a lullaby.

I enter in and do not feel the rib bruising now when I breath deeply. Maybe tonight I can try to sleep on my left side for a little while! There are thunderstorms predicted and somehow I enjoy them. I can almost see them at the time of Benjamin and his leyden jar with Edwards and Whitfield observing. 2020 years ago or so and we are bound together with the simple things of God that astonish and delight us all.

He’s pretty good. Jack
